Publishing with a Purpose … Again!

Writing for children is a deeply personal journey, and I believe the best stories come from the heart—stories rooted in authentic experiences and emotions.

I dedicated The Boy Who Wanted to Fly to someone very special to me, my cousin Amna, who passed away recently.  She contracted polio when she was two years old, which affected her mobility for the rest of her life. Over the years, I watched her transition from leg braces to crutches, then to an electric scooter, and finally to a wheelchair. Later in life, due to the ongoing effects of Post-Polio Syndrome, Amna’s lungs became so compromised that she had to breathe with the help of a ventilator.  However, despite these lifelong challenges, she remained strong, positive, and full of life, becoming a role model for all who knew her.

I want to honor Amna’s incredible spirit by donating a portion of the proceeds from my launch day sales to Post-Polio Health International.  This non-profit organization enhances the lives of polio survivors through education, advocacy, and networking opportunities.  It also supports research efforts to understand and address the ongoing challenges faced by polio survivors.

  1. I too had a cousin who suffered the effects of childhood polio. We were 2 weeks apart in age and we have very similar names, hers was Arline. How nice of you to dedicate your book to her. I am sure she would be thrilled!
